Biography

Barbara LoMacchio is a painter and crafter who resides in Crofton, Maryland. She holds a degree in Art Education K-12. Having studied Painting and Art Education at Syracuse University in the sixties, her work naturally leaned toward expressionism and abstraction in both oil and acrylics. In the early 90's, Barbara studied pastel portraiture with the late Bonnie Roth Anderson at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, Md. That experience developed in her a love for pastels and an expansion into more representational art. She currently works primarily in pastel and acrylic.

Barbara has been privileged to teach various art programs to students at The Friend's School in College Park, MD. She also offers private lessons and accepts commissions.

During the past several years, her work has been exhibited at: The Montpelier Art Center in Laurel, MD; Lustine's Gallery (art dc); New Deal Café; Rhode Island Red's Café; The Calvert House; 39th Street Gallery, Brentwood; the Public Playhouse, Cheverly, MD; Bowie Town Hall Open Juried Art Exhibits; Prince George's Plaza Community Center, Old Line Fine Wine, Spirits and Bistro, Beltsville, MD; Historic Linthicum Walks, Crofton, MD; various art and craft shows and festivals; and other venues.

Barbara's work is currently on display at Franklins Restaurant (Hyattsville, MD), Doctor's Hospital (Lanham, MD), Robert Harper Books (Riverdale, MD), Fleisher's Jewelers (Hyattsville, MD), Newton Green Senior Housing (Bladensburg, MD), and in many private collections.

Artist's Statement: I could write some esoteric statement about my art and my philosophies, but let me just say: When I'm painting I'm engrossed in it. When it's successful, I'm joyful. When someone says they like it, I am nourished and encouraged to do more.
